Celebration of Life Race & LLS Fundraiser – Saturday, March 15
Why am I still alive? It’s simple—cancer research. Without cancer research and clinical trials, I’m fairly certain I would have died 15 years ago.
In 2009, I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL). Back then, MCL had a grim diagnosis, with a 90% chance that I would not survive beyond five years. The majority of people with this diagnosis died within 18 months. Upon receiving this news, I panicked. However, my friends in the medical community reassured me that extensive research and exhaustive clinical trials were making significant progress in combating MCL. New studies had already increased the five-year survival rate to 60%, and with more trials in the pipeline, the outlook was only improving.
To show our support of the research, our team and all the companies that work with 101 Surf Sports will be hosting a cancer research fundraiser on Saturday, March 15th. We will be auctioning off a Jimmy Lewis board, paddles from Quickblade and Chinook, men’s and women’s wetsuits from O’Neill, Olukai sandals and products, and sunglasses from Maui Jim, Suncloud, and Carve Eyewear. We’ll also have amazing food and great beverages. All proceeds from the event will go to the UCSF cancer research foundation.
