2018 Richmond Paddle Cup

Crosswind Paddle Company presents - The 2018 Richmond Paddle Cup, a benefit race for the James River Association. The race will be held on the James River just outside of the capital city on August 11, 2018 at the American Legion Landing in Midlothian, VA. There will be a Fun Paddle (2.5 mi) for more beginner and recreational paddlers, a Long Course (5.0 mi) for more experienced racers, and a 17-Mile Rundown for endurance kayak and canoers! The Rundown will be a mixture of flatwater and rapids from Maidens Boat Landing down to the American Legion Landing. The Long Course will be a flatwater race from The Landing to the 288 Bridge and back! The Fun Paddle will feature a buoy course for paddlers to circuit. SUPs, Kayaks, and Canoes will be allowed to participate in either event, however only Kayakers and Canoers will be allowed to participate in the Rundown race. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place finishers in each division for Men and Women. Note: There must be a minimum of 3 people participating in the division in order to get awarded. After the events have concluded, there will be an award ceremony with gifts and prizes, as well as refreshments, food, and music for participants and guests to enjoy. All participants will receive a swag bag and drink tickets upon registration. If you are interested in a paddle event but do not have your own SUP, rentals will be available courtesy of Crosswind Paddle Company & East Coast Board Sports. The rentals will be offered on a first come first serve basis, so make sure you to put your name in early!

****For 17-Mile Rundown Participants Only****
The starting location will be Maidens Boat Landing, Powhatan, VA 23139. Only Kayaker's and Canoer's will be allowed to participate in this event. There will be no break points on this course, so make sure to pack water bottles and snacks to bring along. Participants will also be responsible for arranging transportation from the American Legion Landing back to Maidens Boat Landing to pickup their vehicles. We WILL NOT be providing any transportation services on day of event. All participants could be subject to Level I & II rapids on this course and acknowledge that they are participating at their own risk. There will be safety personnel at the race start and near the finish, however we strongly recommend bringing a cell phone with you in case of an emergency while out on the water. We will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishers in each division for Men and Women. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns. 

Once again, this event is a fundraiser for the James River Association whose mission is to be guardian of the James River. They provide a voice for the river and take action to promote conservation and responsible stewardship of its natural resources. James River Assocation achieves these goals through their core programs - Advocacy, Education, Community Conservation, the James RiverKeeper Program, and through Watershed Restoration.
