All paddlers will be paddling clockwise around Alameda, starting at Mike's Paddle and west wards along the rock wall. All paddlers will be paddling around the Alameda Point (on the west end of the island) into the Oakland Estuary. Watch out for ferries and boat traffic in the beginning of the Estuary as there can be 1-2 foot swells and chop created by boat traffic. Once you pass JACK LONDON Square, no wake zone will be observed by boats. Grant Street Boat ramp is about half distance along the Alameda Island. For the full islanders, you will continue down from Grant Street Boat ramp east towards San Leandro Bay and crossing under the Bay Farm Island Bridge between Alameda Island and Bay Farm Island. You will paddle along Crown Memorial Beach and reach Mike's Paddle towards the end of the beach.
Safety is our number 1 concern: we will be providing boat support, we will have 1 boat supporting the challenge with captain and first aid on the boat. Our mid way check point Grand Street Boat Ramp is right next to a fire station where there'll be emergency personnel. We'll have shuttle available to pick you up along Alameda Crown Memorial Beach in the afternoon in case the wind comes up.
