Battle of the Bay 2022

GENERAL INFO

The 8th annual Battle of the Bay race will be held May 21, 2022. Hosted by Tim Dwyer, this approximately 5-6 mile race on Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay is held within the bay in semi-protected water.  Although primarily for surfskis, outrigger canoes, rowing dories, open water rowing shells and SUPs are also welcome to participate. 

There is no registration fee, but you must register online before the race. No formal awards will be given but this race is part of the SurfskiRacing.com point series. 

Here's a link to the course map from a previous year. The course will change at least slightly due to the new starting location, and may change significantly depending on conditions.

NOTICE: Paddlers will meet at a new venue at Fort Adams in Newport, RI.  Keep right as you pass a security gate and drive towards the water. Look for a small sandy beach and continue right and park. The large building is the Fort’s old “mule barn“ and should have open bathrooms. Provide your email when registering for important updates.

10:00 - Race start

Bring a chair and lunch for hanging out on the beach afterwards and great views of historic Newport harbor.

This race is being run under the Common Adventure model. You are responsible for your own safety. The race directors assume no liability.  All paddlers must have a PFD, leg or paddle leash, phone or VHF radio in waterproof case, and whistle. Failure to carry these items will result in exclusion from the official results. Orange smoke flares are highly recommended, but not required. Do not register for this race unless you are comfortable paddling alone in rough water and have good self-rescue skills.
