BIC SUP One Design Challenge: GO!
The new international BIC SUP One Design Challenge has been launched! The concept is simple: all competitors use the same Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) in a variety of race situations, with simple race rules and one essential guiding principle : Fun, Friendly. Competition without the equipment ‘arms race'.
BIC SUP One Design Challenge events will take place at venues (beaches, rivers and lakes) which make it easy for novice racers and spectators alike to understand and get excited about this great new sport.
Race formats, rules and courses will be short and simple, making them easy to understand for everyone.
Competitions will be organized in pool format to enable a fast turnaround of heats and give riders the chance of racing more than once.
Equipment- The chosen board is the Wing 12'6, an excellent fit for this type of competition due to its superb glide and high performance. It is very stable and accessible for the widest possible range of riders. The Wing 12'6 is also extremely durable, light weight, and reasonably priced.
These are all essential elements for successful One Design competitions, regardless of the sport. BIC Sport will be organizing these events in collaboration with retail partners, existing event organizers and partner clubs. Test events have already been held in Orlando, Florida, La Rochelle in France, with another scheduled in Puerto Rico later this year (Paddle Royal, Dec 1st & 2nd).
Race rules and an event schedule for BIC SUP One Design 2013 will be available online in the next few weeks atwww.bicsuponedesign.com, with regular updates as additional events are added to the schedule.
