Carolina Cup 2021

November 03 - November 07, 2021 @ Wrightsville Beach, NC, United States

SCHEDULE

THURSDAY, November 4th

  • 8:30am- 11:30am - SUP Racing workout with Danny Ching- only 5 spots available

The SUP Racing Workout with Danny Ching, will cover Various Topics from Technique, to Body Mechanics, injury prevention, generating power through the stroke, race strategy and a    real time race technique application.  This course will also include a Video analysis of each paddlers stroke.

Danny will start with the technique portion of the clinic.  He will spend time on land discussing body mechanics and doing land drills with each paddler to help explain and understand the paddling stroke from a variety of different perspectives, until each paddler has a clear definition and terminology for paddling mechanics.  You will then apply that knowledge through practice, and on the water drills with Danny and the group, to better understand the feeling of the paddle, the board and your body moving as one.  At this point in the clinic we will videotape each paddler on a closed course.  You will quickly recognize how much information you can realistically retain and apply while paddling under pressure.  Together, you and Danny will decipher what technique terminology actually helps you paddle better under pressure.

Danny will then break down a number of important paddling/racing skills.  These skills include strategies and techniques for paddling in rougher waters, turning in large or small crowds, drafting/wake riding other paddlers, and race starts.  Each section of the clinic will be clearly defined into sections.  You, Danny, and the group will discuss and practice the important aspects to each of these skills.  Once your understanding is clear, you and the group will have the opportunity to practice each of these skills in a controlled environment.  Danny will review the skills with you on the water, and have you apply certain drills to help you better understand each skill and develop it through practice.

  • 2pm- 4pm- Connor Baxter's Stroke and technique clinic .       Connor will be going over paddle technique and the correct use of certain muscles groups to make your stroke more powerful and efficient. Along with the paddling technique I will go over the different styles for long distance and sprinting. Then to wrap up the 2 hour session I like to go over and break down my three step buoy turn.

  • 9:00am – 11:00am -  Dan Gavere's Intro to Foil Surfing - limit 3 people.                                                                      This clinic will provide you with the knowledge, experience, and equipment you will need to get your first flights on a SUP foil board. With the use of a powerboat and a toe line we will be starting slow behind the boat on a board that will provide enough float so that you will not need to know how to wakeboard or water start like you would with water skis or a wakeboard behind a powerboat. Learning the sweet spot of where to position your feet and the best possible body positioning will be the first lesson. Followed by slowly taking small flights with frequent “touchdowns” will allow the rider to safely learn how to manage the foil and get comfortable a little bit more each time the board leaves the water and maintain longer controlled flights. Having constant communication and visual cues with Dan will allow each individual to get accustomed to the amazing feeling of hydrofoil flight in a safe and fun manner. This clinic will be useful for all types of hydrofoil riding from prone, to sup, to wing foiling

  •  12pm - 2pm - Dan Gavere's Intro to Foil Wing Surfing- private- one on one

We will start on land to cover general sailing concepts, analyzing the conditions and choosing the proper sized gear and how to use it.

Once on the water you will be sailing under the power of the wing going back and forth (taxi mode) while you master the basics of going from kneeling to standing, self-rescue, sailing in a straight line, turning up/down-wind, turning around and coming back (jibe).

As you progress to taking your first flights, the next steps are footwork, riding goofy/regular, finding the "sweet spot" to place the feet, and how to control the "pitch and roll" of a hydrofoil. Dan provides live coaching using a special fitted 2-way radio system, creating a roadmap to the best and quickest route to becoming a proficient wing foiler.
