Welcome to the 5th Annual Clear Lake Iowa Paddlefest 2023!

We are currently accepting a Presenting Sponsor for the event

  • 1, 3, and 5 miles routes
  • Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each race

  • ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN A USCA WAIVER/RELEASE. ALL KIDS WHO RIDE ALONG WILL NEED A WAIVER/RELEASE SIGNED BY PARENT/GUARDIAN


The best way to experience Clear Lake is from the lake. Grab your paddle and join the fun for our 5th annual Paddlefest event! Explore the shores on your kayak, canoe, or SUP on either our 5 mile, 3 mile, or the fun 1 mile loop.  Bring the kids to ride along as well!  Check out our Course Map tab to see our routes. This is a FUN event! No pressure on what your time is. We are timing it for those who wish to make it competitive. Our goal is to promote an active lifestyle while enjoying our beautiful lake. This is a great opportunity for water sport enthusiasts to come together and have a good time!  There will be awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each race. Each participant will also recieve a waterproof bag. Any funds raised will go to local charitable causes.

-Entry Fee for the 1 mile course is $30 per paddler
-Entry Fee for the 3 mile course is $40 per paddler 
-Entry Fee for the 5 mile course is $50 per paddler 

Registration Includes:

-Light breakfast and drink for participants & 1 waterproof bag. 

-Fun day on Clear Lake and opportunity to meet other paddlers!


Race Start
The 5-mile paddlers will start first. The 3-mile paddlers will follow. 

There will be 3-minute intervals between each category. Please see our Schedule tab for more information.

-Registration includes 1 paddler. If you have a tandem kayak or canoe, you must register and pay for each paddler. 


Course
The 3 mile and 5 mile course will have one mile dog leg to the south and one square mile in the middle.  The one mile course will be one square mile straight out from the beach. We will have aid boats and sea doos on the course in case you have any questions or need assistance after you start. The FD will also be patrolling in their red boat in case of any emergencies. Safety Rules                                                                                                                                                                                               

  1. Each competitor must have in his or her possession during the entire race an easily accessible and immediately availablePersonal Flotation Device (PFD) which is marked on the PFD as being approved by the United States Coast Guard. ThePFD carried/worn must be appropriate for the water conditions being paddled on.
  2. PFDs secured to a vessel (e.g. bungee cords or straps) must be able to be released quickly with one hand (securing byduct tape is prohibited – including securing to standup paddleboards).
  3. When the water temperature is below 50ºF, each competitor shall wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD.
  4.  All youth competitors 14 years of age and younger are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD designedfor the water conditions at all times during any race.
  5. A race sponsor/organizer may require PFDs to be worn by all competitors if the Race Sponsor/Organizer feels theconditions warrant. PFDs must be adjusted to a snug-fit and worn as the manufacturer designed them to be worn.
  6.  Federal/State/Local regulations on PFDs that are stricter than USCA rules will prevail. Some States require wearing aU.S. Coast Guard approved PFD during certain times of the year.
  7.  PFDs must be in serviceable condition and the appropriate size and fit for the intended user, and legibly marked withits USCG approval number. A PFD is NOT considered to be in serviceable condition if the PFD exhibitsdeteriorations that could diminish the performance of the PFD including:1) Rips, tears, or open seams in fabric or coatings, that are large enough to allow the loss of buoyant material;2) Buoyant material that has become hardened, non-resilient, permanently compressed, waterlogged, oil-soaked, orwhich shows evidence of fungus or mildew; or3) Loss of buoyant material or buoyant material that is not securely held in position.
  8.  Rules specific to inflatable PFDs:1) Must be U.S. Coast Guard approved.2) Must actually be worn to meet the U.S. Coast Guard requirement for having one PFD on board per person.3) Only may be used by youth under the age of 16 if the U.S. Coast Guard approves that specific model for use byyouth under the age of 16 (currently none are USCG approved).4) Shall not be worn by non-swimmers, nor worn in Class II (The International Scale of River Difficulty) waterconditions.5) An inflatable belt pack PFD shall be worn in the front at the waist as the manufacturer designed it.Competition Events Guidelines page 1 of 2United States Canoe Association Competition  Cruising  Conservation  Camping  Camaraderie6) Must be inspected by the user prior to wearing including assuring that it is equipped with a properly armed inflation mechanism, complete with a full inflation medium cartridge and status indicators showing that the inflation mechanism is properly armed (green indicator).
  9. In lieu of wearing or carrying a USCG approved PFD, a competitor older than 13 years of age may wear aninherently buoyant foam filled PFD which meets International Organization for Standardization ISO 12402-5as long as the competitor complies with the instructions printed on the PFD, and the race organizer or a Statelaw hasn’t mandated the wearing of a higher buoyant foam filled PFD which meets International Organization for Standardization ISO 12402-5as long as the competitor complies with the instructions printed on the PFD, and the race organizer or a Statelaw hasn’t mandated the wearing of a higher buoyancy U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD. Must wear the ISO12402-5 compliant PFD securely to be legal.


Weather Policy
In the case of thunderstorms the day of the race, a weather delay of 30 minutes to one hour may be set in place. We will not send racers onto the water if lightning persists. In the event of cancellation, we cannot offer refunds. Race Swag will still be given out to all who registered in time to secure one. Following that deadline, Race Swag will be available while supplies last.

Refunds will not be issued for any reason.
