The Connecticut River Museum’s THIRD annual downriver paddle regatta to benefit the Museum’s education programs takes place on August 10th, 2019 from 8:00 – 3:00. The Regatta is open to all paddle craft: canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards and rowboats!

This year will feature 3 race routes:

1. Essex Harbor Recreation Race: The new 3 mile race starts at Pettipaug Yacht Club, 145 River Rd, Essex, CT 06426, and finishes at the Connecticut River Museum $45 registration per person, $75 for tandem kayaks and canoes.  This is a fun recreational race for all levels!

2. Eagle Landing Race: The 9 mile race starts at Eagle Landing State Park, 14 Little Meadow Rd, Haddam, CT 06438 and finishes in front of the Connecticut River Museum in Essex. $60 registration per person, $85 for tandem kayaks and canoes.  This race is for paddlers of an intermediate to advanced level that are comfortable paddling potentially against current, wind and boat/wind chop.

3. Portland Distance Race: This 23 mile points race starts at Yankee Marina at 54 Riverview St, Portland CT and finishes in front of the Connecticut River Museum in Essex. $75 registration per person, $130 for tandem kayaks and canoes.  This long distance endurance race will start against the current and is subject to varying wind and current, it is ONLY for advanced athletic paddlers.  Racers will be pulled off the water after 4.5 hours for safety concerns, and to allow the event to run on time.

The races are open to men and women age 16 and over, with classes for SUP, Kayak, Canoe and Open. Both races are fully staffed with support and safety boats. Youth ages 12-15 are welcome to participate with a registered participating adult, or as pre-approved by the race committee, based on paddling/ water prowess. The races are followed by awards on the Museum lawn, lunch and activities.

We recommend participants carpool or find alternate modes of transportation back to their cars. The race committee/ Connecticut River Museum is not able to provide transportation. Contact a friend and have one person leave their car at the start and the other at finish!

Please consider bringing a refillable water bottle! We will have drinking water on site and would like to make this event as environmentally friendly as possible!
