Local’s Guide to Mason's Inlet
2:30pm @ Public Access #2 

If you’ve wanted to try the Graveyard but you’re worried about Mason’s Inlet, then this is the clinic for you. Learn the in’s & out’s (pun intended) of this challenging section of the course. There’s breaking waves, rollers, shoals, channels, eddies, and double ups. Regardless of the direction the course is run this year, it’s good to be acquainted with the area! Join local paddler, and 4x World Champion paddler, April Zilg as she shares local tips and tricks to make it through the inlet. After covering surf zone safety on land, this 2.5 hour clinic will be mostly on the water. As a group, you will paddle the north and south sides of the inlet, discovering sandbars and channels so that you can select a line that you’re comfortable with: whether you want to surf in, or never encounter a breaking wave… both are possible! Paddlers can expect to walk away with a newfound confidence in this area of the course, local knowledge about the tides and sand bars, and improved water reading abilities.

Previous paddle experience is required. (This is a course geared towards paddler wanting to make the jump from the 9 mile to the 14 mile course that are not worried about the distance, but are worried about the conditions. Thank you for understanding.)

OC6 races will take place on Saturday 9/28:

8AM  "The graveyard" course is approximately 14 miles and circumnavigates Wrightsville Beach.  The race will start and finish at Blockade Runner Soundside.  There will be one start time...men's and women's combined.

10:30 AM  (or when all canoes are back) "3 Islands"  is approximately 9 mile flatwater course-  Men's, Women's and Mixed crews.  All divisions will start at the same time!

The Wrightsville Beach Outrigger Canoe Club (WBOCC) strives to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture of outrigger canoe paddling, and to provide opportunities for everyone in our community to engage in a healthy, safe, and inclusive water activity. As the first outrigger canoe club in North Carolina, we offer paddling programs for competition, along with social paddles to experience our coastal waters.

Together, we participate in competitive outrigger races. We have traveled to Hawaii, California, New York, Florida, and DC to compete. We also volunteer our time on a local level, by partnering with organizations such as Nourish NC and Momentum Recovery.

WBOCC is managed by dedicated members who volunteer their time and provide their skills, assistance, and resources to ensure the club’s sustainability.

As a local non-profit organization, our major source of revenue is generated by membership fees and fundraising efforts. These funds are then reinvested into the club for the benefit of everyone involved.

This sponsorship proposal was an initiative we launched for the 2021 season, and we want to continue to reach out to local individuals and businesses so that we can support each other and be positive influences in our community.
