August 22nd (original July 4th was impacted by flooding)

The race will occur on the Mississippi River Alton Pool formed by the Mel Price Lock and Dam, located upriver from the city of Saint Louis at the Lincoln Shield access. This section of the Mississippi River is very much like a large lake and the race will occur in an off-channel portion of the river. Racers will navigate a triangular 3 mile loop.

About The Course
The race will be very spectator friendly with the racers in view the entire time. Bring your family and enjoy the Alton or Lincoln Shield riverfront.

Stand Up Paddle Board Racers
3 miles total one loop of the course

Kayak and Canoe Racers
12 miles total four loops of the course

Age of Racers

Anyone paddling solo in the main race event must be at least 18 years of age on July 4th, 2015 or at least 16 years of age if part of a tandem team accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. (Note that the parent or legal guardian must sign the liability waiver for the 16 or 17 year old.)
Note: A short course youth race may be offered (for free) to racers under 16 and details will be announced at a later date.

Military Veterans

In support of the important service of our military veterans and in keeping with the July 4th celebration and race date, all military veterans are eligible to receive a refund of their registration fee (and thereby race for free). The way this will work is that a voucher will be provided to all veterans after the race. For organizational purposes veterans will still need to register (and pay) for the race and also must successfully participate in the race to receive a refund voucher. In addition, to further recognize our veterans – one of our sponsors, Recreational Products of the Carolina’shas agreed to give a carbon fiber paddle (of the racers choice) to the first veteran across the line during the Canoe and Kayak race.

Race Cancellation, Reschedule and Refunds

If an unknown factor or event such dangerous weather forces a race cancellation (high winds, thunderstorms with risk of lightning strikes or floods) then an attempt to offer a make-up race date will be organized. All racers are responsible for monitoring the race website for updates on the race. If the race is postponed, any racer is welcome to attend the make-up race date or alternatively can receive a voucher for a race entry for the next year. NO REFUNDS will be offered. Keep in mind that the race is a fundraiser for the Mississippi River Water Trail Foundation, so if you find out that you can’t make the race at the last minute…your registration will go to a good river-worthy cause.
