Hunting Island Paddlefest - 5K Virtual Challenge

November 21 - November 22, 2020 @ Russ Point Boat Landing, Saint Helena Island, SC, USA

GENERAL INFO

Overall Results

The Paddlefest usually starts and finishes at Russ Point Landing in the south end of Hunting Island State Park.

This year, however, we have cancelled physical racing because of coronavirus dangers. Our local ER physician, an avid racing paddler, has advised against running an in-person group competition in this unprecedented time.

In place of on-site racing, we are hoping to encourage paddlers of all abilities to participate in a virtual competition and take on a 5 kilometer paddle challenge to not only stay active, but to raise money for the important work of the  Beaufort Water Search and Rescue. We hope that the new format keeps everyone safe and comfortable, and allows more people to participate.

Virtual competition requirements

There are four important stipulations.

First, all participants must follow local rules to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and each paddler must  measure their distance and time  with a GPS device such as an I-phone with the Strava App or the Garmin Forerunner 235.

Second, paddlers can race in either or both of two events: sea/lake,  where the full 5k distance should be paddled out/back and finish at the start; or river/creek, where the full distance can be done in one direction without having to return.

Third, paddlers can  participate in any or all classes,  including : HPK, FSK, SK, REC, C-1, OC1, SUP 14, SUP 12'6", SUP under 12'6", Prone, Tandem HPK, Tandem FSK, Tandem SK, Tandem OC-2, Pedal Boat.

Fourth, all results must have been generated after September 15, 2020.
