Race Categories

THERE ARE THREE DISTANCES  TO CHOOSE FROM, 1 mile, 3 mile, and 8 mile. The 8 mile race will be a down river from Abercrombie Boat Ramp located North of Apalachicola on Bluff Road. We will have some limited space to shuttle boats and paddlers to the start if needed. There will be time for someone to drop you off at the start of the 8 mile race and watch the start and still make it back to town to compete in the short races.

THE 8 MILE RACE COURSE COULD CHANGE DUE TO CONDITIONS! BACKUP OPTION WOULD BE TWO LOOPS ON 3 MILE COURSE FOR 6 MILES. CONDITIONS WILL BE EVALUATED THE MORNING OF THE RACE.

Race categories are based primarily on the sound rowers system of length and width ratio which is a very equitable method of grouping paddlers by boat type. You can learn more here and even look up your own make and model to find your category.
