The Explore Kentucky Initiative is proud to join Paintsville Tourism and Prestonsburg Tourism for the inaugural Levisa Fork River Streak presented by the Tourism Offices of both cities. The race is the second event in the 2017 Kentucky Waterman series with distances of 8 and 16 miles for a diverse fielding of solo and tandem paddlecraft; SUP, Kayak, high performance kayaks, and canoes. Paddlers will streak along the flowing class 1 waters of the Levisa Fork, a tributary of the Big Sandy River, while being surrounded by the foothills of Kentucky’s Appalachian Mountains, experience breathtaking scenery, and camaraderie of paddlers from all around the country. Trek along the waterway where the last riverboat sunk in the mighty Levisa on Wiseman Shoals or marvel at the engineering masterpiece of West Prestonsburg Bridge and old bridge cross ties along the way. Post-race we will gather and dine on the wonderful cuisine of Lizzie B, a Hawaiian themed eatery , fellowship with games and music, and of course presentation of race awards.
We encourage you to bring friends and family to visit and cheer you on. If they aren't participating in the race, there are many different hiking and mountain biking trails winding through beautiful picturesque scenery. After enjoying a wonderful day of outdoor adventure we encourage our guests to enjoy the Appalachian hospitality that Paintsville and Prestonsburg offers, featuring; delicious southern comfort foods, unique shops and many other wonderful attractions.
Awards will be for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in class!
