Mission 50: Paddling for Purpose Race Description
Join us for Mission 50: Paddling for Purpose, a 50-mile open-ocean journey (not a race it's Ohana building event) from St. Augustine Inlet to Mayport, Florida, dedicated to supporting mental health, suicide prevention, and service-related illness relief for our nation’s heroes. This event brings together Active Duty, Veterans, First Responders, and Civilians to paddle for a cause, raising awareness and funds to support Task Force Hydro1’s surfing and paddling programs. A portion of the funds will also go to organizations addressing service-related illnesses.
Suicide and cancer rates among military personnel and first responders are alarmingly high, reflecting the toll of service-related stress and exposure. On average, 22 veterans die by suicide each day in the United States, and suicide rates among first responders are estimated to be more than 10 times the national average. Cancer rates also disproportionately affect these communities, with certain cancers—such as lung, brain, throat, and skin cancer—occurring at higher rates due to toxic exposures and high-stress environments. These statistics highlight the urgent need for mental health support and healthcare advocacy within these groups.
The event will offer both a range of paddlecraft, including SUP, small craft, and OC6. Paddlers in all divisions are encouraged to raise a minimum of $750 each to support this cause, We won't kick you out if you don't hit the target, but we will joke with you!
We want to emphasize that our goal is for each participant to raise funds, not simply pay. Fundraising is key because it actively spreads awareness about the mental health challenges and service-related illnesses our veterans and first responders face. Every conversation you have and each dollar raised helps amplify the message, drawing attention to this critical cause. By rallying support from your network, you’re not only contributing financially but also creating a community of awareness and advocacy.
Bring yourself, or your team, we'll add you to a team if needed. Please contact us if you need a support boat. Celebrate post-race with an Ohana-style BBQ and Awards Ceremony at Hannah Park in Jacksonville.
Divisions: We've canceled the race concept this year, we enjoy doing backflips, laughing and taking selfies during the switches.
This setup allows paddlers of all skill levels and craft preferences to join and contribute to a meaningful cause.
