NCA Minimental Small Boat Race 2022

October 9 @ 1900 M Street Southeast, Washington, DC, United States

GENERAL INFO

Aloha! Welcome to the NCA Minimental Small Boat Race! This race is hosted by NCA Outrigger and the National Capital Area Women's Paddling Association (NCAWPA). All small craft racers are welcome to participate: Outrigger canoes, surfskis, kayaks, SUPs, marathon canoes (conditions permitting), and one and two person rowing shells (conditions permitting).

New this year: Free registration for women paddlers who have not raced Minimental before! In alignment of our club's mission to promote women in paddling, we'd like to encourage more women racing. Use this coupon code when registering: "WHORUNTHEWORLD".

Overview:

This is a flatwater small boat race on the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers in Washington, DC. Participants can race a 9.5 mile Long Course, a 4.25 mile Short Course, or both at no extra cost.

  • Long Course overview: Downstream the Anacostia River from the Pennsylvania Street Bridge, turn at Hain's Point towards Georgetown, loop around the 14th Street Bridge, and then head back to the start. Racers will be challenged by competing tides and currents in both rivers as well as possibly windy conditions out in the Potomac.
  • Short Course overview: Same start and finish as the Long Course, but racers will turn around the green channel marker #3 buoy near James Creek Marina. This is a great opportunity for participants new to small boat races.

Participants will be served a luau lunch after both races are complete, included in your registration fee.
