The 2nd annual Race the Tide will happen in the fall of 2025, date to be announced shortly.
This 25-mile team relay features four-person teams dressed in their favorite costumes, surfing the boat wake, and having as much fun as possible on their way to Guanabanas.
Starting at Tidehouse in Stuart, teams will travel south down the Intracoastal Waterway, stopping at checkpoints to receive playing cards and compile a poker hand to be revealed at the awards ceremony.
If you're looking for a unique event focused on boat wake surfing and fun times, Race the Tide is something you will want to join in 2024.
Rules:
Time Cut Off:
If paddlers do not make cut off they must board boat and motor up to the checkpoint and restart. If time expires before arriving to Guanabanas paddlers must board boat and check in at Guanabanas. Playing card from the checkpoint will not be issued if paddlers did not paddle to checkpoint in allotted time.
4 Mile Check Point at Sewall's Point - 55 minutes
9 mile check point at Cove Road - 2 hours
15 miles check point at Bridge Road - 3 hours 20 minutes
19 miles check point at Tiger's Beach - 4 hours 15 minutes
25 mile Finish at Guanabanas - 5 hours 35 minutes
Awards:
Fastest Tide Rider Team(s)
Awarded to the fastest team in the sit down, prone and stand up divisions. Teams must make it to each checkpoint and finish at Guanabanas first. If more than 4 teams enter in other categories we will create a division for them, for example dory, multi person sit down, and etc.
Tide Rider Show Pony
The team that showed up to the start line dressed to impress, with a mission to have the most fun, while going all out to race the tide back to Guanabanas. They may or may not have won, but they sure did act like they carried the trophy home. Awarded to 1 team only.
Best Hand Poker Run
Awarded to the team with the best hand of cards received while checking in at the checkpoint. This winner is the product of sheer luck but must be in attendance at the awards party to win. If team is not in attendance, the next best hand will win. All 5 cards are not needed. Only one team will be awarded as a winner, any team from any category can win.
Golden Paddle Award
Awarded to the team who exemplifies the spirit of the paddling community. The unsung paddler may not have made the fastest time, but went above and beyond on and off the water for others.
