Come join us and make this inaugural paddle a fun celebratory event that you'll want to hit every year !!
We’re stoked to offer the first annual ‘race’ format of this well-loved local paddle event & can't wait to welcome you to the Island! Much thanks to all of our participating sponsors-Tilghman on Chesapeake Yacht Club, Scraped the Plate Food Truck Catering, and Amy Cool's Icecream Express. A special mention to our NotforProfit partner -Phillips Wharf Environmental Center (PWEC)-who will receive a portion of our registration fees to apply to their awesome Chesapeake Bay education offerings.
Paddlers will be launching from our host & Race start site on Avalon Island-Tilghman on Chesapeake Yacht Club
No matter our course direction all 9-mile paddlers will pass through Knapps Narrows, a highly traveled thruway from The Chesapeake to The Choptank River & home to one of the most frequently opened drawbridges in the United States.
The 5 mile paddle will offer a fun comfortable course that hugs the shoreline on the River side of Tilghman Island, well marked and within visibility of the launch site. This is an 'out and back' course.
We encourage all competent paddlers to join this event regardless of their desire to 'race'. We've been enjoying this challenge for several years & It's a beautiful paddle no matter your speed. Our starting direction will be determined within 24 hours of the event to take the best advantage of wind direction. Should the wind offer a challenge we will opt to have the most difficult portion of the 9 miles be tackled in the first leg.
