We thank you for being a part of the 12th Annual Adler Paddler - your involvement in this event supports an awesome organization, the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health.

It's important for all of you to know your genetic predisposition to developing an aortic aneurysm and/or dissection. If you have first-degree relatives that have had a thoracic aortic aneurysm and/or dissection you have a higher chance to develop an aneurysm. So next time you are with family and relatives, and you're not quite sure how grandpa passed or any of your close relatives, ask questions, start the conversation. The conversation could save your life or a loved one's life.

Our dear friend Steve Adler did not know that his father passed away from an aortic dissection and in 2010 at the Cold Hands Paddle he experienced the start of a dissection during the race. His dissection was not detected as the doctors did not do the proper testing on him as they were unfamiliar with the symptoms of an aortic aneurysm. He passed away four days later.

With the proper imaging and knowledge of his family history, Steve's life could have been saved. Since Steve's death, with the help of the JRF, Steve's brother has been properly diagnosed and had corrective surgery, avoiding unnecessary death. Adler's son Clark is also being properly monitored every year to see if he has early signs of dissection. Knowledge saves lives! Thank you for your support.
