This is a 22.5 mile paddle around Atlantic City Island (AKA Absecon Island in southern New Jersey), an eight mile paddle and NEW FOR 2015 will be held on June 13, 2015. It will commence at Golden Nugget Marina (Farley State Marina) and will include an amazing after-party to start at 4 pm on the world famous Golden Nugget Deck, prizes for the top finishers in each division of the 22.5 mile race, a silent auction, live music, food, cash bar and so much more! For more information you can visit www.deanrandazzocancerfoundation.org.
No matter what distance you choose the paddler’s commitment is what this 22.5 mile race around Absecon Island is all about! A minimum of $200.00 fund raising is needed for entry (but we encourage you to raise more). All paddlers MUST ALSO register at www.deanrandazzo.dojiggy.com. This site make raising funds a breeze!
Paddlers are encouraged to complete the paddle on either a SUP or Prone paddle board, however we do allow other type's of race craft (as long as you paddle it).
The event was founded by Mike May in 2008 and the course was designed to be a challenge, much like the challenge of what a person with faced with the battle of a cancer diagnosis must endure. However if 22.5 miles is too daunting a task we have an 8 mile social paddle (all back bay paddling to the Wonderbar and back to the Golden Nugget, which still a challenge in its own right as paddlers will have to go against tide and wind at some point) or choose the 4 mile paddle (one way with the tide) and get a ride back to the Golden Nugget complete with board transportation.
Once again will are welcoming all paddlers to come out and paddle in one of our many paddle classes and help raise much needed funds for individuals battling cancer.
There are two WPA sanctioned race divisions for Stand Up Paddle Boards. MEN 14’ stock and WOMEN 14’ stock.
Other paddlers that are welcome in the “open division” will include outrigger canoes, race kayaks, surf skis and team’s (consisting of 2 but no more than 6 paddlers) unlimited SUP.
The 22 mile paddle will begin at 8am. Paddlers will take on average 5-6 hours to complete the course. The 8 mile paddle will begin at 10 am.
If you live on the bay the DRCF encourages everyone to come out and cheer the paddlers on! You can also attend the finish or after party at the Golden Nugget where you can meet the athletes in person. Tickets to the after party can be purchased for $25.00 at the door.
The Paddle for a Cause
is a charity event whose proceeds assist people who are battling cancer.
In the event of race / fun paddle cancellation due to
weather the funds raised are not refundable.
