The Philadelphia Outrigger Canoe Club’s 7th Annual Hoe Wa`a Challenge is a paddling enthusiasts weekend on the beautiful beaches of Brigantine Island, New Jersey. The 3-day event kicks off with a full day of paddling clinics on Friday, August 17th for OC-6 in a Malolo Unlimited with Kekoa Cramer and OC-1/OC-2 instruction with Kai Bartlett. On Saturday, August 18th we launch the 7th Annual Ozone Hoe Wa`a Challenge - an open ocean OC-6 race with beach launch featuring 12-mile men’s and women’s races and a 9-mile mixed race division. And new this year on Sunday, August 19th is the Sunova Waterman's Challenge - short and long open ocean races with beach launch for OC-1, OC-2, surfskis and standup paddleboard. *Conditions permitting.

  • Friday, August 17, 2018 Paddling Clinics sponsored by Premier Paddle Sports and Extreme Windsurfing *for experienced ocean paddlers only, must bring own PFD (non-inflatable type): 11AM, 2PM and 5PM.   2 hour clinics, limited seats available.

Team Registration: August 7, 2018 (11:59 PM EDT)

Late Registration: August 8, 2018 - August 15, 2018 (prices go up!)

REGISTRATION

 OC-6 crews in need of a canoe should read the Canoe Loans section below and related info. All teams must register through PaddleGuru.

Registration through August 7, 2018

  • Paddling clinics: $125 per person; registration link will be posted at www.POCCHoeWaa.com/registration/
  • OC-6 races: $360 USD per canoe
  • OC-1, surfski, and paddleboard short and long races: $50 USD per paddler
  • OC-2 short and long races: $50 each paddler (total $100 USD)

Late registration: August 8, 2018 - August 15, 2018

  • Paddling clinics: $135 per person; registration will be posted at www.POCCHoeWaa.com/registration/
  • OC-6 races: $420 USD per canoe
  • OC-1, surfski, and paddleboard short and long races: $60 USD per paddler
  • OC-2 short and long races: $60 USD each paddler (total $120 USD)

Separate registration required for each team/craft racing

Registration fees go directly to cover event costs. Should the event be cancelled due to weather or other safety concerns, refunds will not be provided. Questions about registration can be directed to hoewaa@philadelphiaoutrigger.org.

DOUBLE PADDLERS (for the OC-6 Race)

  • Registration fees are per crew not per paddler
  • For the OC-6 teams, each registered OC-6 crew will receive 6 luau tickets (at race check-in) which are transferable.

OC-6 CANOE LOANS

  • Deadline for canoe loan requests by July 15, 2018 to be made through registration form submission and to be coordinated by POCC Hoe Wa`a Race Committee. (please request via google form link at the end of the PaddleGuru Registration page).
  • Please do not reach out to other clubs directly to avoid double booking.
  • OC-6 Canoe rental fee $300 USD to be collected by the POCC Hoe Wa`a Race Committee and passed through to the team renting their canoe).
  • Completing registration does not guarantee a canoe. Requesting teams will receive a confirmation email once a canoe loan is arranged.
  • After the canoe loan deadline (July 15, 2018), teams needing a canoe should not register without prior approval from the POCC Hoe Wa`a Planning team.

CANCELLATION FEE

20% cancellation fee will be assessed for all registrations cancelled by August 7, 2018 11:59 PM EDT.

100% Cancellation fee will be assessed for all registrations cancelled after August 8. 2018 12:01 AM EDT.

NO CANCELLATION for Late Registration.

CAPTAIN'S SAFETY MEETING

  • The Ozone Hoe Wa`a Challenge and Waterman's Challenge are ocean races and safety meetings are required. See schedule for Captain’s Safety Meeting.

POST-RACE LUAU (OC-6), LUNCH (Waterman’s) & AWARDS

  • SATURDAY post-OC-6 Race:
    • Luau included in OC-6 athletes team registration fee - ticket is your racing wristband. All others are welcome to purchase luau tickets available here: http://www.pocchoewaa.com/luaulunch/
    • OC-6 double paddlers will receive 2 tickets (wristbands) which can be picked up at the registration tent on race day - these are transferable.
  • SUNDAY post-Waterman's Challenge Races:
    • Lunch included in OC-1/OC-2/Surfski/Paddleboard athletes registration fee - ticket is your racing wristband.
