Overview:
Welcome to the first Upper Chatt SUPCAK Race, one of hopefully future annual races! Organized by the White County UGA Extension 4-H Club, this race will serve as a fundraiser for our 4-H youth program. 4-H is a National youth development organization that has been in place for 50 years. For more information please visit www.georgia4h.org. It is our hopes to grow this event each year if successful this year, which means we need lots of paddlers and sponsors! The event will be hosted at Don Carter State Park in North Georgia. This is a wider stretch of the Chattahoochee River where the river feeds into Lake Lanier. Although there is little current in this section, typically the water is shielded from major winds making this a smooth and enjoyable paddle and out of the traffic of Lake Lanier. There will be three races, a 10 mile marathon loop , a 3 mile loop recreational loop, and a 1 mile fun run paddle. We are encouraging paddlers from all experiences and boat types to come and join us. Whether you are a seasoned competitor or someone who has never paddled in a race before, this event is for you. Open to Kayaks, Canoes, and Stand Up Paddle boards, we have an event for you.
Registration:
Registration is open now until October 10th. For the 10 and 3 mile race: Adult (solo) is $39.99, Youth (under 18) is $25. Adult(Tandem) will be $34. The discounted rate should help alleviate cost for family and father child teams. The one-mile race will only be $25. Registration includes Upper Chat SUPCAK Race t-shirt (logo in main title)
***Deadline for registration is October 11th at 5pm. Deadline to register and get a t-shirt is October 7th at 5pm.***
Food and Beverages:
The 4-H Club members will have food available, something off the grill to fill your belly, plus some Gatorade and water.
Race Events:
These following events will be available in both the 3 mile and the 10 mile races. The one mile fun run is all boats inclusive, but is rather an event for brand new paddlers who just want to be apart of the event and race atmosphere. There will be two separate mass starts for each of the races. Because this is a first time race and we want to be all inclusive we have broadened the traditional event categories to the following:
Tandem Class: Kayak,Canoes and Outriggers (under 18.6' and 18.6' and over classes)
Solo Class: Kayaks, Canoes, and Outriggers greater than 14'
Masters Class(age 50+): all vessel types
Youth Class (18 and under): all vessel types * youth can compete in a different class if preferred
Recreational Class: Solo or Tandem, all recreational style canoes and kayaks. Recreation being defined as any vessel with a maximum length of 16'. This would include your standard canoe, sit on top kayak, and some sea kayaks.
Stand Up Paddle Board: all lengths
***We ask that you use your general judgement when registering for a particular class. We want a competitive atmosphere but also a fun one. Your registration fee covers you to compete in one event. Top three times in each class will be recognized at awards ceremony. Women will have a 2 min. handicap added to their time.
**If we have enough paddlers in different length Kayaks, Canoes, Outriggers, or surfski's we may be able to break them out into individual classes, similar to the Southeastern Paddle Sport Championship Series breakouts . That decision will be made closer to race day. For now we prefer not to have too many different event classes for our first year.
