2020 TIPPSIXX Treasure Island Pirate Paddle 6, The Virtual Race

June 01 - September 06, 2020 @ Riverfront Park, River Road, Point Pleasant, NJ, United States

GENERAL INFO

Welcome to the 2020 Treasure Island Pirate Paddle 6, Virtual Race. For the sixth consecutive year this paddle-sport event will take place on the beautiful Manasquan River along the shores of Point Pleasant, Brielle, Brick, and Wall Township. This year, however, the event format will be quite different. We will still include divisions for SUP, Prone Paddle, OC-1, OC-2, Surfski, and Kayak, however, it will be a "Virtual Race", in the sense that you may paddle the race on your own within a time span from (June 01 thru Sunday, September 06). You may paddle the race alone, with friends, or with a group, as many times as you like. After you've completed the course, you will then submit your time via text message along with a screen shot of your Garmin, Strava app, or other racing app, etc. We will compile the results and announce the winners after September 06. For 2020 the event will feature the 6.25-mile course, a 3.5-mile "To the Bridge & Back", a 1-mile "Sprint Around the Island", and a 1-mile "Paddle with Your Pup".

Also, if you are unable to travel to Point Pleasant and paddle the actual course, you may paddle anywhere in the world and simply submit your time. We will provide two major categories, those paddling the actual course, and those paddling elsewhere. We'll sort out the details.

Some Important Information:
Once again, all registration must be done beforehand through www.paddleguru.com.

Course Maps:
Course maps and videos are provided on this site.
For those of you that have participated in our past events, this year's course will be very similar to those that we have presented over the past few years with just a few minor tweaks. Since we will not be able to leave inflatable buoys on the course throughout the entire race period, we will be utilizing as many natural landmarks such as islands and bridges, along with existing channel markers to delineate the course as simply as possible.

Here's How it Works:

1.   Paddle the course (start and finish from Riverfront Park)

2.  Record your time on a Garmin or similar device, Strava, Iphone app, etc.

3.  Text your information to 732-330-2760 (race director cell)

     a.  First and Last Name

     b.  Race Registration #

     c.  Craft type (SUP, OC1, OC2, Prone, Surfski, Kayak etc.)

     d.  Your Time

     e.  Screen Shot of your race path

4.  We will compile all submitted results and announce winners after September 06, 2020

5.   Note: If you are paddling elsewhere (not the Treasure Island course), be sure to give us your location when submitting your time.

Note: You may paddle the course as many times as you wish.

Due to the inclement weather in the northeast, we have decided to extend the race period for 1 additional week and keep the course open until Sunday, September 06.

WPA Safety Regulations for 2020:
All paddlers 13 years of age and older must wear a USCG approved type I, II, or III PFD or have one attached to their board. Leashes will be required for all SUP paddlers per the latest WPA regulations. All children 12 years of age and under must wear a vest type PFD and use a leash. No exceptions.

A Word on Safety:
In the past, we have always taken every precaution possible to assure the absolute safety of each and every paddler regardless of age and experience. PFD's are required by USCG law and leashes are strongly recommended. Depending on tide and wind there may be potentially dangerous currents along certain portions of the course, especially at bridges and narrow channels. This is not a course for first-time paddlers. We ask that each paddler exercise common sense and caution while participating in this event and paddle with a friend when possible.
