The Newport Aquatic Center (NAC) is a 501c3 Non-profit
committed to achievement in canoeing, kayaking and Rowing. Beginners
come to improve their physical condition, enjoy the aesthetic and competitive
aspects of these sports and intrinsically experience the spirit of the NAC.
National Teams from Europe utilize this first class Aquatic Center throughout
the year. The NAC hosts a variety of events during the year such as, races and
regattas that provide an opportunity to hone competitive skills and several
fund-raising events.
This year NAC is sending an elite crew from the NAC men’s outrigger canoe team to
Tahiti for Hawaiki
Nui Va'a, a 3 day 90 mile race around the islands of Tahiti. Teams from all over
the world compete in the extremely competitive outrigger canoe race!
A portion of the funds that are raised for the NAC team are
going to be donated back to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease
that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to
breathe. The NAC has a strong connection with
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. With close family friends of the whole program,
the NAC has always partnered up to give back when they can. The NAC recently
lost an outrigger coach of over 20 years to the CF disease this past year; the
outrigger program is determined to help make a difference with this foundation.
