Race 1: The 5K (This is a new course for 2023!).
We will start at Windjammer beach with a Beach Start, Sprinting 50 yards out to the Goat Boater Bouy to make a 90 degree right hand turn heading toward Windjammer island. Stay to the right of the island and make a counter clockwise turn around the Island. You are now out in the main channel and will be crushing it out to Goat Island also staying insync and paddling counter clockwise around the island. Back out in the main channel use all you have to get back to the Goat Boater Bouy near Windjammer beech. Make a right pivot turn around the buoy and sprint to the beach. Run up the shore for your photo beach finish!
The Fun Run will be a 1K loop that follows the same start of the course around the 1st island and back to the shoreline. This is a great course for having fun with friends and or getting your feet wet in your first race. All are welcome and encouraged to sign up with your family and kids!
All Goat Boater Races are SUP only event. There will be no other kayaks, OC's or other crafts to dodge.
Windjammer offers great views for you and your family to watch the race and enjoy some beautiful views of Lake Wylie.
The Goat Boater Race series is unique in many ways. Most notably our 1 mile social paddle directly after the race for all paddlers and guests.
Testimonial: "Full disclaimer- I am 62 this is only my second year of racing and I get severe pre race pre meeting new people jitters. I participated in the Goat Boater Race series 2021- Megan and Rob embrace the spirit of SUP- all who come are welcome - these values are also evident in their race team. There were so many different participants from elite athletes, to families tandem racing, to people new to the sport and/ or racing. It is fun- serious fun during the race- but fun. The racers cheer each other on - even to the last one coming in - I could feel the positive energy of the group. There is a social paddle after the race - a fun way to get to know each other - get tips- and try other equipment out. Megan and Rob are very knowledgable and can help you navigate the different board types if you are ready to move to a race board (or new race board), Race conditions are closely monitored, there are plenty of safety lookouts so those new to paddling in moving water can feel well protected. There is clear communication to participants which I appreciate pre race day and prior to the race start. If one is an experienced SUP racer or a novice there is a place for all in the Goat Boater Series."
