The Technical Goat 1K - Heats (Goat Boater Race #5 of 6)
Just maybe our favorite race of the year! This race is all about taking us out of our comfort zone and testing our technical skills with multiple buoy turns. This race also introduces us to a newer format of heat racing that requires managing your energy throughout the morning. This 1K course contains 5-6 buoy turns where you will go head-to-head over 3-4 heats to win it all. This is a sitting, water, start and a photo water finish.
The start/finish line is right off the shore and offers great views for spectators at The Tega Cay Beach Club.
For the less crazy racers out there and 1st timers, please sign up for the Technical Fun Run! A great way to get introduced to the sport with very low pressure. You will paddle with other competitors out there to have fun with friends', family and kids. The Fun Run will consist of 1 lap through the course, no heats.
$600 Cash Purse for this race!
All Goat Boater Races are capped at 60 racers and this is a SUP only event. There will be no other kayaks, OC's or other crafts to dodge.
The Tega Cay Beach and Swim Center offers great views for you and your family to watch the race and enjoy some beautiful views of Lake Wylie. The Goat Boater Race series is unique in many ways. Most notably our 1 mile social paddle directly after the race for all paddlers and guests.
Racers will progress through heats throughout the morning, most likely doing 2-3 heats.
Board and gear demos will be available after the race.
Candice Appleby will be conducting Clinics and Racing all weekend! Get signed up when you register on PaddleGuru.
Dave Boehne, Owner of Infinity, will be with us as well! Stay tuned for meet n' greets and story time with Dave!
This year, we will be going to Model A Brewing for lunch! Model A has a great lunch menu and a full bar. Please plan to join us after the last race finishes for lunch and friendship!

Testimonial: "Full disclaimer- I am 62 this is only my second year of racing and I get severe pre race pre meeting new people jitters. I participated in the Goat Boater Race series 2021- Megan and Rob embrace the spirit of SUP- all who come are welcome - these values are also evident in their race team. There were so many different participants from elite athletes, to families tandem racing, to people new to the sport and/ or racing. It is fun- serious fun during the race- but fun. The racers cheer each other on - even to the last one coming in - I could feel the positive energy of the group. There is a social paddle after the race - a fun way to get to know each other - get tips- and try other equipment out. Megan and Rob are very knowledgable and can help you navigate the different board types if you are ready to move to a race board (or new race board), Race conditions are closely monitored, there are plenty of safety lookouts so those new to paddling in moving water can feel well protected. There is clear communication to participants which I appreciate pre race day and prior to the race start. If one is an experienced SUP racer or a novice there is a place for all in the Goat Boater Series."
