Lianne Ritter Regatta

In honor and memory of Lianne Ritter, Annapolis Rowing Club coach & rower and St. John's College Crew coach, who passed away tragically in 1990, ARC and SJC Crew hold the annual Lianne Ritter Regatta. Traditionally, the race has been a fun, informal event between St. John's College Crew and Annapolis Rowing, both masters and juniors. This year, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the regatta, we would like to extend an invitation to our SUP and kayak friends to join us on the water for a 3 mile or 6 mile race and a potluck party after.

There is no cost to register for the race, but we ask that you bring food or beverage to share and consider making a small donation to South River Federation or Strokes4Survivors, our rowing program for cancer Survivors.

ARC looks forward to seeing you on the river!

On exiting Gingerville Creek, turn left to head downriver on South River to the east side of the Route 2 bridge.  Your start line is just on the east side of the Route 2 bridge, on the north side of the river.  You will have a mass start on the water.

Your course follows the northern shoreline.  Stay to the right as you proceed toward the Riva Bridge.

The 3 mile course will turn around at the YELLOW buoy positioned in the top of Broad Creek.  Make a left shoulder turn around the buoy.  On the way back, stay to the left, following the same line you took on the way up.  Your finish line will be marked by two kayakers with orange flags, sitting just west of Gingerville Creek.

The 6 mile course will pass the YELLOW buoy and head into Broad Creek.   Your course follows a zigzag pattern.  You have 6 buoys to navigate after the YELLOW turn around.  These buoys alternate left/right shoulder turns:

·        Buoy one: left

·        Buoy two: right

·        Buoy three: left

·        Buoy four: right

·        Buoy five: left

·        Buoy six: right to come back up the creek

On the way back up Broad Creek, ping all the buoys, alternating right and left shoulder turns:

·        Buoy five: right

·        Buoy four: left

·        Buoy three: right

·        Buoy two: left

·        Buoy one: right

On exiting Broad Creek, remain to your left, following the same line you took on the way up.  Your finish line will be marked by two kayakers with orange flags, sitting just west of Gingerville Creek.

The race is being hosted by Annapolis Rowing Club on Sunset Drive in Edgewater.

The Marina on South River has offered a launching area for SUP and kayak.  For GPS, their address is 2818 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater MD 21037.  Volunteers from ARC will be on site to direct you to the launching area.  Once you drop your board, you will be directed to a parking area.

The safety briefing and the potluck party/awards ceremony after will both be held by the ARC boathouse on Sunset Drive, which is a short walk from The Marina on South River.
