NCA Minimental Small Boat Race 2020

October 16 - October 25, 2020 @ 1900 M Street Southeast, Washington, DC, USA

COURSE MAP

Course Requirements

Racers may choose to submit times for any (or all!) of the three distances. If multiple times are submitted for the same race in the same craft, the fastest will be used for placement. Racers may also submit times for the same distance in different boats.

Race distances:

  • “Minimental” long course, 10 mile loop

    • Begin and end in the same location

    • Recommend an out-and-back loop or a triangle

  • “Mini-Minimental” short course, 5 mile loop

    • Begin and end in the same location

    • Recommend an out-and-back loop or a triangle

  • “Sprinti-mental” sprint course, 2 mile point to point sprint

    • Start and finish do not need to be in the same location

    • Recommend a straight-ish line

    • Anything goes: Favorable tide and current? Massive downwind? All of the above?? How fast can you go in 2 miles?

Guts and Glory Challenge

For a true challenge, complete all 3 courses. Racers will be assigned points based on their placement, and whoever has the most points is crowned the Guts and Glory Champion!

This year, we will crown the following Champions:

  • Top male racer

  • Top female racer

  • Top two person team

The fine print:

  • Racers may compete either as an individual competitor or as a two-person team.

  • Points are assigned according to placement within boat category and gender division --  Not age division

  • 1st place receives 12 points, 2nd place receives 11 points, etc., until all others receive 1 point.

  • Individual point totals are compared to all other racers of their own gender participating in the challenge (regardless of boat category) and two person teams are compared against all other two person teams participating in the challenge (regardless of boat category or gender).

  • Racers may only compete as a two-person team if they maintain the same partner through each race. Otherwise they earn points as individual competitors.

  • TL;DR -- submit times for all three races and see where you end up ;)

Tie breakers for points:

  1. Placement:

    1. In the long course

    2. In the short course

    3. In the sprint course

  2. Greatest margin of victory, measured as the difference in average speed between the competitor and the next lowest placed competitor:

    1. In the long course

    2. In the short course

    3. In the sprint course

  3. Lowest combined time of all three races
