The Penobscot River Whitewater Nationals Regatta will take place from July 6 to July 10, 2016 on the Penobscot River between Old Town and Eddington, Maine. The Penobscot Nation is hosting the event on this historically important and beautiful 9.5-mile section of river, returned to its free-flowing state following removal of the Great Works and Veazie Dams. The race course includes three Class II-III rapids, numerous rips and quick water.
The 2016 Penobscot River Whitewater Nationals Regatta features four championship disciplines:
Whitewater Open Canoe Downriver and Sprint
Kayak Downriver and Sprint
SUP Downriver and Sprint
Age groups: Youth: 10-12, 13-15; 10-16/25 (JR/SR), 14-18, 19-39, 40-54, 55+
USA Wildwater National Championships: A Wildwater Championship entry will include two Sprint races and one Classic race.
