The Sunnyside Downwinder is a classic downwind run that the Team Tahoe Waterman crew does whenever the wind allows. Lake Tahoe is a sleeper downwind destination. The lake has a big fetch and being at 6000 feet gets big storms with high winds. Combine high winds and good fetch and you get great bumps for gliding across pristine waters.
Lake Tahoe has finicky wind, usually, the early morning sees an East wind puff before settling down until the afternoon. The wind usually starts from the South and slowly moves from the West and in between that move it goes SW and gives us great bumps to ride! There are a few little tricks that you will want to listen in on during the race briefing and the course will be set morning of but if the wind is up plan on some serious fun!
We will be checking the wind forecast during the week of the race and be giving updates as the week progresses. If the wind does not come then we will still be racing and having fun! The resort of Sunnyside is awesome and the west shore of Lake Tahoe is a great spot to hang out at with great trails ready for you so bring your mountain bike and running shoes and take advantage of the playground that is Lake Tahoe!
For those not wanting to race a downwinder there will be the Watermans 3 mile that will start at 10am. It will be an out and back from Watermans to Rocky Point and back.
