Toms River Paddle Race 2020

September 27 @ Irons Street, Toms River, NJ, USA

GENERAL INFO

47th Annual Toms River Paddle Race
NEW DATE: Sunday, September 27, 2020

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.
An absolute maximum has been reached.

NO EXCEPTIONS. NO EMAILS, PLEASE.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL NOT ACCEPT WALK-ON REGISTRATION.

DUE TO COVID-19, we will be hosting only the new Elite 8-mile open water course from Huddy Park towards Island Heights in a double 4-mile loop this year in the following categories: SUP, kayak, outrigger canoe, surfski, prone, and open water rowing.

Check here for any further announcements given the turbulent situation.

Entrance fee: $35.00/paddler.
This year's event will serve to raise money for Save Barnegat Bay.

A minimum of two paddlers required in class for awards in the 8-mile race.

The Sea Scouts Ship No. 129 will serve as volunteers throughout the day.

After the race, there will be an awards ceremony.

Note: there will be no t-shirts this year due to the uncertainty of the evolving situation, although during the registration process, you will still be asked an optional question of which t-shirt size you prefer; feel free to answer this question as it will help us to determine sizing for 2021.

We will remain vigilant of the status of the coronavirus in New Jersey. The race will therefore run only as the most current local and federal laws permit near the race date. In an effort to protect everyone's health and safety on race day, we will be implementing safety procedures that everyone will be required to follow and that will reflect the latest CDC guidelines.

Safety requirements will include, but will not be limited, to the following:

1)  PFDs and a pealess whistle for all racers, a leash for all SUP paddlers, and either a leg or paddle leash for surfski paddlers. If crossing the finish line without a PFD, you will not be scored.

2) Face coverings worn on land.  At all times, on land and on water, participants must be aware of maintaining a minimum of a 6-foot distance from everyone else. Frequent hand washing and bringing one's own alcohol-based hand sanitizer are strongly encouraged.

3) No guests are allowed; only registrants and volunteers will be admitted to the venue. This decision, however difficult, will allow for a maximum number of participants and for a minimum number of those from whom we will have to social distance ourselves. Photos and filming will be arranged.

4) Participants are responsible for bringing their OWN food and hydration.

5) Participants are expected to know how to perform a self-rescue, especially in windy conditions or confused water created by boat wake. If you cannot depend on rescuing yourself, please do NOT register.

6) Participants must e-sign a digital waiver PRIOR to race day.

During the registration process on paddle guru, a link will be provided to the electronic insurance waiver that you will be required to fill out BEFORE paying on paddle guru. Keep PG as an open tab, since you will have to redirect yourself back to this platform in order to finish your registration. Note: Registration is complete ONLY when you have signed the waiver (on DocuSign) and PAID on (paddle guru.)

7) Compliance with New Jersey state travel restrictions in accordance with the prevention of communicable disease spread must be observed. Registrants will be informed of the latest list of states on the travel restrictions notice in NJ as we near race day, and if anyone already registered resides in a state on that list, or, has traveled to one of those states for a period of more than 24hrs from 9/12/20-9/26/20, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RACE. You will, however, receive a full refund, since you are not expected to self-quarantine for 14 days in NJ before the race.

8) A mandatory virtual Captains' Meeting will be held 24-48 hrs before the day of the race. Day/time TBD

9) Participants and volunteers will all be required to answer an electronic COVID-19 symptoms questionnaire 24 hrs before the race. Further, everyone must submit to a no-touch temperature check upon arrival.

10) Drive-in registration will avoid the hassle of waiting in line less than 6ft apart.

Come paddle with us for a safe, fun day on the water.

REGISTRATION: No walk-ons! Registration will close either when we have reached a maximum (to be determined closer to the date of the race) or on Thursday, September 24 at noon EST-- whichever comes first. This event will occur rain-or-shine, barring any storms. Registration is non-refundable, and benefits Save Barnegat Bay and the Sea Scouts Ship no. 129 in Toms River.  The sole exception to our no-refund policy is if WE need to cancel at any time between now and September 27 due to new concerns regarding the coronavirus: if such is the case, registrants will receive a 100% total-forgiveness refund. We are 100% committed to the health of our dedicated athletes

Special Accommodation: Paddleboards only are available to rent from Josette Lata: josette@josettelata.com.

Minimum age is 13 years old, experienced paddlers only. Scout Leader or Coach must verify skill level of their paddlers prior to registration.
