Music City SUP Race 2016

The Music City SUP (and kayak and prone) Race is back for 2016! We're now part of the Southern Stoke Series and presented by Ryman Hospitality Properties.

This race is a community paddling event produced by a number of local paddling outfitters. Proceeds from the race benefit the Cumberland River Compact, which works to protect our local watershed.

We'll race next to the downtown Nashville skyline in two events, open to everyone from first-time racers to pros:

• 2-Mile Race (two loops, with 5 turns each, $50)
• 6-Mile Elite Race (six loops, $60)

Both races are open to SUP, kayak and prone paddlers, hard boards/boats and inflatables.

Racers who register in advance will be eligible to win a BOTE board from our sponsor, SweetWater Brewing Co.

And! All racers will receive a 10% discount off registration for the Rock Island Paddle Rampage Sept. 4, thanks to sponsor Hardwin Adventures.

River Queen Voyages and Cumberland Kayak have rental kayaks available for this race. You must contact them directly to make a reservation, in addition to registering for the race. Chattanooga Paddleboards has race boards available for rent.

Need to place to stay? Book your room at the Hotel Preston (733 Briley Parkway) online.

Or call 866-986-8089. Request the Music City SUP Race/Nashville Paddle Co. rate to get the discount. The hotel has free parking.

Everyone who races must sign our digital waiver: https://www.smartwaiver.com/w/57978cf9ee5f6/web/

PLEASE NOTE: If you are registering late, you are not guaranteed a t-shirt.

Please e-mail race@nashvillepaddle.com with questions. We look forward to seeing you on the water.

COURSE MAP:

We race in a 1-mile loop in downtown Nashville, launching from the EAST SIDE of the river. The loop has 5 turns

1st leg = 0.42mi (2200')

2nd leg = 0.05mi (250')

3rd leg = 0.39mi (2100')

4th leg = 0.05mi (250')

5th leg = 0.05mi (250')

Finish = 0.03mi (150')

1 mile lap w/ 5 turns

Launch is from the sloped concrete and grass "beach" closer to Nissan Stadium (not from the docks where we were in 2013). Those who don't want to do the buoy turn in the middle of the "W" can choose to around bridge (starting line) and back. That's slightly longer but with fewer turns.

BODY MARKING:

Racers will be body marked instead of race numbers. We will have body marking at packet pickup the morning of the race.  Race numbers need to be at least 3” on the right side of your body. We will need to mark your body below your race shirt or shorts. It’s imperative that the timers see your race number when you finish.

Racers will be allowed in the water to warm up by 8:45 a.m., immediately following national anthem.

Launch: Racers will launch on and off boards from the sloped concrete "beach" (not the dock) on the east side of the river. You will paddle up river (away from bridge columns) to await your air horn start behind the start line. We will have volunteers along the dock to help you safely come off the water. The volunteers can carry your board to the staging area if you need help.

STAGING:
All racers will stage their boards in the grassy tiered lawn area. Look for signage. Racers are encouraged to bring SUP bags or other protection for your SUP when not racing.
