RACE INFO
PRO PADDLERS: IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE FOR
THE BIGGEST PRIZE PURSE IN PADDLE SPORT HISTORY, YOU MUST DO BOTH THE TECHNICAL AND DISTANCE
RACES. This also applies to the PRONE and JUNIOR PRO divisions and their
prizing. In short, individual trophies will be presented for the
individual races as well as the combined.
Technical
The technical races for the Pacific Paddle Games will take advantage of
the world-class surf race venue at Doheny State Beach, featuring laps in and
out through the waves.
Pro/Elite
Pro racers will compete in qualifier heats consisting of single .7-mile
sprint lap on Saturday. The Top 10 racers will advance from the first heats,
straight to the semi-final. The racers that do not make the Top 10 will race
again in a repechage heat for a second chance to make the semis. Qualifiers through the semis will be held on Saturday afternoon. Again, Top 10
will qualify for the Final Pro Technical race, which will take place on Sunday
afternoon.
Open
Open racers will compete in a technical race consisting of three one-mile laps on Saturday. Racers will go out through the surf, complete three laps and come in through the surf to the finish. There are no qualifiers or sprint races for these categories.
Junior Pro
Junior Pro racers (advanced racers under 17 with surf and buoy turn skills) will compete in an individual technical race consisting of three laps in and out through the surf on Saturday. There are no qualifiers or sprint races for these categories. Racers will be on boards 12'6" or under. TO COMPETE FOR THE $4,000 PRIZE PURSE, JUNIOR PRO RACERS MUST COMPLETE BOTH THE TECHNICAL RACE AND THE DISTANCE RACE.
Grom Pro
Grom
Pro racers (for experienced youth paddlers) will compete in an
individual technical race consisting of two laps in and out through the
surf on Saturday. There will be four divisions starting at the same time
(13-14, 11-12, 9-10, 8 & under). Boys and girls will have separate
races. Competitors 12’6” boards or smaller.”
Prone
Prone racers will compete in one, four-lap, 2.8-mile, technical race on Sunday afternoon. Competitors will be on boards 12' or smaller. There will be no age groups for prone. Both prone races are on Sunday. TO COMPETE FOR THE $4,000 PRIZE PURSE, PRONE RACERS MUST COMPLETE BOTH THE TECHNICAL RACE AND THE DISTANCE RACE.
Distance
The six-mile Distance race at the PPG will
consist of two laps on our triangle course outside of the surf near Doheny State Beach. The three-mile Distance race will consist of one lap on the same course.
Pro/Elite
Pro racers will compete in a six-mile distance course race on Sunday
morning.
Open
Open Distance racers will compete on a three-mile or six-mile,
distance course race on Sunday morning starting directly after the Pro Division completes its first lap. Junior Pro will race the six-mile and Grom Pro competitors will do a
three-mile distance course race at the same time.
Junior Pro
Junior Pro racers will race the six mile course in a staggered start after the pros. TO COMPETE FOR THE $4,000 PRIZE PURSE, JUNIOR PRO RACERS MUST COMPLETE BOTH THE TECHNICAL RACE AND THE DISTANCE RACE.
Grom Pro
Grom Pro racers will race the three-mile distance course.
Prone
Prone racers will compete in a six-mile distance course race on Sunday morning with the open SUP divisions. TO COMPETE FOR THE $4,000 PRIZE PURSE, PRONE RACERS MUST COMPLETE BOTH THE TECHNICAL RACE AND THE DISTANCE RACE. *Both prone races are on Sunday.

PRO PADDLERS MUST REGISTER BEFORE 3 p.m. ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9TH, as the #PPG2015 team needs to create the heat draws for the next day. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY CHECK IN FOR PRO RACERS!!!
