RACE AWARDS DONATION: Don’t forget that in lieu of the usual prizes for Ice Breaker Race award winners, donations will be made to the charitable organizations of their choice; please let us know which organization your team chooses to be the recipient of a donation made in your team’s honour.
CONCESSION: Hot soup, hot beverages and delicious home-baked goods will be available for purchase – bring lots of spare change! This is a fundraiser for our Lotus youth team!
RACE COURSE: Race course will be determined on race day based on water and weather conditions. Be aware that boats will be loaded from the beach and paddlers will have to step into the water to get into the V12; team members should wear suitable footwear. Many thanks in advance to teams in the first and last heats who will be moving boats to or from the beach.
Steerspeople should note the following CORA rule regarding race turns:
“Upon entering the turning zone, should the inside canoe have any overlap with the outside canoe, the inside canoe will have right-of way and the outside canoe must move off and cannot impede the inside canoe’s turn at any point in the turning circle or at any point upon exiting the turning circle. This rule applies to all canoes entering the turning circle. If overlap is not established, the outside canoe is not obligated to give way but sterns shall take precautions to avoid collisions at all times. Overlap is defined as a condition that exists when no open water can be seen between the stern of one canoe and the bow of another, when canoes are viewed at right angles to their course.”
The race director will review this rule during the steerspersons’ meeting preceding each heat.
